Vintage Indian Maid in Canoe Print in Wood Chip Carved Tramp Art Frame

This is a very well crafted vintage tramp art picture frame that has four layers of stacked chip carved wood strips starting with the largest on the bottom up to the smallest on top. It is 17 inches x 13 inches and has a nice semi-gloss finish. Crafted entirely by hand in the late 1800's out of reclaimed wood, usually cigar boxes. It is in excellent vintage condition with only one small nick from one edge of a strip along the glass. The rectangular shape is formed by using two of the stacked wooden strips and joining them to appear to cross one another.

The frame's interior glass area is 8.5 inches x 5 inches and holds a copy of a vintage print of an Indian maiden in a canoe by Zula Kenyon. It can, of course, hold any photo or print you like and is wall-mounted so could hang either vertically or horizontally. The back of the frame is covered in a new dust cover and has a hanging bracket so could be hung just as it is. This tramp art picture frame is a stunning representation of craftsmanship of the era. Her work, usually sentimental images of children, animals, flowers, and young women, was featured in their calendars, jigsaw puzzles, and other publications.
